Polyurethanes are a class of polymers with a wide range of properties, all of which are based on the exothermic reaction of organic polyisocyanates with polyols, an alcohol containing multiple hydroxyl groups. Polyurethane is often used to bond composite structures together. Polyurethanes are widely used in structural and reinforced reaction injection molding processes, where isocyanates and polyols are usually mixed in a 1:1 ratio in a reaction chamber and then rapidly injected into closed molds containing short- or long-fiber reinforcements.
